Lt General Syed Asim Munir will take over as the 17th Chief of Army Staff of Pakistan Army today

Rawalpindi ;General Qamar Javed Bajwa is retiring today, while General Syed Asim Munir will take over as the 17th Chief of Army Staff of Pakistan Army today on November 29, 2022.
In a dignified military ceremony, outgoing Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa will hand over the symbol of the Army Command, ‘Malacca Stick’, to Hafiz-e-Quran and Honorary Sword recipient General Syed Asim Munir, after which the outgoing Army Chief will leave for his residence.
The Malacca Stick, also known as the Command Stick, is an army command stick that has been a part of military tradition since the British era.
The cane is considered a symbol of command in the military, the tradition of giving the Malaka cane to a new army chief dates back to the British era.

The Malacca cane is part of the uniforms of important military officers in many countries, including Sri Lanka, India, and the United Kingdom.
In a dignified military ceremony, outgoing Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa will hand over the symbol of the Army Command ‘Malacca Stick’ to Hafiz-i-Quran and Honorary Sword recipient General Syed Asim Munir.
The Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa was handed over the command stick as his successor by the outgoing Army Chief General Raheel Sharif in a ceremony held in Rawalpindi on November 26, 2016. General Raheel Sharif was succeeded by the then General Ashfaq Parvez in 2013.

While General Pervez Musharraf handed over this Stick to General Kayani after leaving the charge in 2007.

The Malacca Stick is awarded to officers of the rank of 1 star i.e. Brigadier, this stick is given to officers by senior officers.

The Malacca stick is considered to be a symbol of the increase in the personality and power of the Army Chief, but the real significance lies in the heavy responsibilities and powers on the shoulders of the Army Chief.

Army Chief Change of Command ceremony at Rawalpindi GHQ will be held today at Army Hockey Stadium.

Lt General Syed Asim Munir will participate in the change of command ceremony wearing the shoulder ranks and collar medal of the four-star general.
On this occasion, it has been decided to suspend mobile service in certain areas of Rawalpindi
According to sources, mobile phone service will be partially closed in Rawalpindi from 8 am to 4 pm
It should be noted that General Qamar Javed Bajwa was entrusted with the command of the Pakistan Army by his predecessor General Raheel Sharif on November 29, 2016. Former Prime Minister Imran Khan appointed General Qamar Javed Bajwa as the Army Chief for a period of 3 years with an extension was granted.
