A Gujranwala based private family offered to adopt the rare bear at after the refusal of all government departments for all over the Pakistan to look after the bear. An official of the Islamabad Wildlife Management Board (IWMB) informed the Islamabad High Court (IHC) in last proceeding that none of the provinces of Pakistan was ready to take two Himalayan bears that are currently being kept in the Marghazar Zoo in poor conditions. It is pertinent mentioned here that the case fixed before honorable Chief Justice Islamabad High Courts for today. The chief justice while directing the head of the Four Paws team Dr. Amir Khalil to brief the court on Kaavan’s health adjourned hearing till today Monday, September 28th 2020.
While talking to exclusively ‘’DAILY MAIL INTERNATIONAL ‘’ the Director General Army Heritage Foundation Brigadier Muhammad Asif Akhtar said that total of 44 animals have been temporarily moved from Marghazar Zoo Islamabad to in Jungle World Ayub Park until the animal sanctuary in the capital is completed. Army Heritage Foundation Director General retired Brig Mohammad Asif Akhtar stated that animals and birds have been brought to Jungle World Ayub Park Rawalpindi, where they will be look after under the supervision of veterinary doctors. These animals include four Blue and Black Bulls each, seven Monkeys, 17 rare breeds of Rabbits, four Urials, five Zebras and three rare breeds of Wolves. In this regards a team has been formed to look after the new arrivals, under the supervision of a veterinarian. He said Jungle World Ayub Park Rawalpindi is one of the best zoo in the country as well as in South Asia, housing white tigers and other rare breeds.“We are making efforts to provide a better environment to animals and follow the directions of the team of veterinary doctors. Special arrangements have been made for them in the winter and summer seasons,” he added. The Army Heritage Foundation Director General retired Brig Mohammad Asif Akhtar said steps are being taken to provide entertainment to residents of Rawalpindi and Islamabad. Lawns, a jogging track, a Zoo, Cricket and FootSall grounds, Trail and Quad Bikes, Zippiness and Jet Boating facilities have been provides at Ayub Park, he said, and more facilities will also be provide as part of new projects. The vintage park has a number of military vehicles and equipment, he said. On the same day, the court will likely announce decision on Kaavan’s relocation to Cambodia. Earlier the Islamabad Wildlife Management Board (IWMB) Chairman Dr Anis Rehman told media that the animals were shifted to the Ayub Park Zoo Rawalpindi on the directives of the Islamabad High Court. He said the arrangement is temporary, and the animals will return to Marghazar Zoo Islamabad in a few months.Dr Rehman said that the Ministry of Climate Change has made a plan to improve the zoo, and Rs1.3 billion have been allocated for its reconstruction.“After the completion of these projects, the animals who have been shifted to other sanctuaries will be brought back,” he said. In May, the IHC had ordered for Marghazar Zoo’s animals, including the lone elephant Kaavan, to be shifted out of the Zoo because they were kept in terrible condition. After this, the Ministry of Climate Change decided to establish a sanctuary that meets the behavioral, social and physiological needs of animals. The official of the Islamabad Wildlife Management Board (IWMB) informed the Islamabad High Court (IHC) in last proceeding that none of the provinces of Pakistan was ready to take two Himalayan bears that are in the Marghazar Zoo in poor conditions. These bears were rescued by the IWMB Islamabad from their captors as they were being used for entertainment purposes which are illegal according to Pakistani laws. The poor animals were tortured and their teeth were taken out by their masters. The IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah had ordered in May 2020 this year to relocate all the animals from the zoo of Islamabad after two lions and several other animals were reportedly killed because of Zoo administration’s negligence. The IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah was so furious about the death of the animals that he initiated contempt proceedings against IWMB officials, Minister of climate change and federal secretary. In pursuance of the IHC orders, three wolves, two bears, five Vervet monkeys and 17 rabbits were shifted to Ayub Park sanctuary of Rawalpindi, the court was informed in last hearing.About the bears, Chairman IWMB Dr Anisur Rehman informed the court that Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) wildlife departments had refused to take those bears. Chief Justice Athar Minallah expressed his dismay that animals were not being accepted by the provincial governments. This is the level of our sense of care towards animals that were maltreated and tortured unendingly, said Chief Justice Athar Minallah.“We have become so corrupt that we don’t hesitate to misuse food for the animals and sell it in the black market,” said Chief Justice Athar Minallah. The IWMB chairman also informed the court about the only Asian elephant Kaavan in the zoo. A team of Four Paws International has come from Austria to assess the animal’s health and fitness for its relocation to Cambodian elephant’s sanctuary, he said. The chief justice while directing the head of the Four Paws team Dr. Amir Khalil to brief the court on Kaavan’s health adjourned hearing till today Monday, September 28.On the same day, the court will likely announce decision on Kaavan’s relocation to Cambodia.“There were three wolves, two male and one female, besides monkeys and rabbits that we have relocated to their new abode in Ayub Park,” said Dr. Amir Khalil. “After giving them anesthesia, we put microchips into wolves’ bodies as mark of identification and vaccinated them as well as conducted complete medical examination,” he added.
They seem to be in good condition and fit to be relocated to the Ayub Park, he said. When asked if he was satisfied with the facilities in Ayub Park, he said the facilities and space in the park’s sanctuary were quite good. After relocation of wolves and monkeys, the Marghazar Zoo is now left with only Kaavan, the only Asian elephant and the Himalayan bears.About the bears, Khalil said there were two Himalayan bears, one male and one female. They are apparently 17 years old. The female bear is sick and operated and overall they are in better conditions. Four Paws experts have been requested to come and examine Kaavan’s health and fitness to be relocated to Cambodia’s sanctuary for elephants.

Commonwealth Games Federation Partners with The Prince’s Trust to Build a Legacy for Youth
By;Asghar Ali Mubarak
The Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) and The Prince’s Trust are today launching a multi-Games strategic partnership, to ensure many more young people will benefit from the legacy of the Commonwealth Games and Commonwealth Youth Games. This strategic and transformational partnership will begin with the XXII Commonwealth Games, to be hosted by Birmingham (United Kingdom) from July 28 to August 8, 2022. The partnership will enable young people in Birmingham and the West Midlands to access a wide range of volunteering, training and employment opportunities generated by the Games. The CGF and The Prince’s Trust will then aim to continue the partnership for all future Commonwealth Games and Youth Games, with key projects to be channeled through the Commonwealth Sport Foundation. This will ensure that best practice can be transferred from one Game to the next. The Prince’s Trust is already a member of the Birmingham 2022 Games community programme, working to ensure there will be plenty of opportunities for young people to be involved in the lead up to the Games and beyond. In addition, there are plans to host three youth led summits between now and the 2022 Games, which will celebrate the global community, unlock young people’s potential, whilst also galvanising enthusiasm for the Commonwealth Games. As such, the partnership will boost economic growth, community cohesion, sustainability, health and wellbeing up to and beyond 2022. The new partnership takes on added importance due to the economic and social devastation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic which has left young people from lower socio-economic backgrounds particularly vulnerable. The Prince’s Trust, which was founded by His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales in 1976, has supported over 950,000 young people. Since 2015, The Prince’s Trust has expanded its reach to support young people into education, employment and self-employment across the Commonwealth – including in Australia, Barbados, Canada, Ghana, India, Jamaica, Kenya, Malaysia, Malta, New Zealand, Pakistan, Rwanda, Trinidad & Tobago and the UK.The Commonwealth Games and Youth Games aim to engage and inspire young people, through the transformational power of sport as a force for social change. The Commonwealth Sport Movement, driven by its values of Humanity, Equality and Destiny, is committed to uniting the Commonwealth’s athletes, citizens and communities to lead social change to unleash our human potential and transform lives.

As strategic partners, the CGF and The Prince’s Trust are both focused on transforming lives and building peaceful, sustainable and prosperous communities across the Commonwealth. This exciting new partnership will build a genuine and durable legacy for young people in Birmingham and across the Commonwealth by enabling them to become future leaders and agents of change.

The Earl of Wessex as Vice-Patron of the Commonwealth Games Federation said:

“Sport is vital in helping young people gain some of the necessary skills, experiences and values that are vital to help them navigate safely through life and in work. The Commonwealth’s sporting community can and does play a vital role in inspiring and supporting young people to develop themselves through non-formal education and learning, but we could do more.

“Forming strategic partnerships, such as the exciting one between the Commonwealth Games Federation and The Prince’s Trust, can help us reach and empower many more young people. I look forward to seeing the positive effect we can achieve, especially in Birmingham and the West Midlands in the lead up to the 2022 Commonwealth Games.”

Pakistan calls for transparency in UN Sanctions Regime

Islamabad;

By;Asghar Ali Mubarak

Pakistan has stressed the need for depoliticization and transparency in the UN Sanctions Regime for its effectiveness and credibility.

At weekly news briefing in Islamabad on Thursday, Foreign Office Spokesperson Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri regretted the decision by some members of the UN Security Council’s Sanctions Committee to block the designation of two Indian nationals Gobinda Patnaik and Angara Appaji to the sanctions list.

The spokesperson said these Indian nationals are wanted criminals in Pakistan for their involvement in many high profile terrorist attacks and currently residing in India under state protection.

He said Pakistan had provided sufficient evidence to the UN Security Council Sanctions Committee regarding establishment of training camps by the Indian terrorism syndicate to foment terror and instability in Pakistan.

The spokesperson said Pakistan will continue to expose Indian support for terrorist entities such as TTP and JUA.

Voicing concerns over continued military siege and communication blackout in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the spokesperson said Pakistan condemns the Indian government decision to forcibly impose Hindi language on Kashmiri people in the occupied territory through the Jammu and Kashmir Languages Bill approved recently by the Indian cabinet.

He said condemnable decision is part of BJP regime’s designs to deprive the Kashmiri people of their distinct culture and identity.

He said the international community must take cognizance of the series of illegal decisions and act to protect human rights of the Kashmiri people.

Responding to a question, the spokesperson said Pakistan is committed to fully implement the international court of justice judgment in Kulbushan Jadhav case and provide consular access to Indian spy.

Regarding recent Islamophobia incidents, the spokesperson strongly condemned the desecration of holy Quran in Sweden and Norway as well as decision by a French magazine to reprint deeply offensive caricatures of holy Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him).

The Natural Disaster Consortium (NDC) under the Multi Year Humanitarian Programme (MYHP) funded by  UK aid has initiated emergency response in the flood-affected districts of Pakistan’s Sindh province providing 128 Hygiene Kits to 1,540 people in Hyderabad, Sindh. The British Deputy High Commissioner in Karachi, H.E.Mr.Mike Nithavrianaksis said; “My heart goes out to those affected by these devastating floods. I’m pleased to see the emergency response that has provided support to more than 1500 flood affected in Sindh.“The Natural Disaster Consortium (NDC) continues to assess the immediate needs in the most critical areas to ensure relief those most affected in these difficult times.”The emergency stock has been transported to four flood-affected districts of Sanghar, MirpurKhas, Badin and Umerkot and distribution will start today (01-09). The emergency stock includes 450 Tarpaulin sheet, 75 Tarpaulin roll, 5 Water Tanks, 900 Latrine Slabs and 900 hygiene kits some of which will be distributed in Hyderabad today. The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), an NDC partner, has committed to contribute additional stock as the response proceeds. As part of this immediate response, one of NDC partners, HANDS, distributed 220 hygiene kits among affected people in Hyderabad from 29 August through 1 September. This was much needed assistance, especially for women of the communities struggling with immediate aftermath of rain and floods and looking for any sign of hope. One of the strong women, Halima, hailing from the Muhalla Liaquat Ashraf Colony in district Hyderabad, while explaining situation in her village, expressed – “Our lives have turned upside down due to these heavy rains, but the support from the UK through NDC and HANDS has been a beacon of hope”. There are multiple stories similar to Halima’s of women who are continuing to support their families even in these testing times. As part of the on-going emergency response in the affected districts of Sindh, NDC partners have also conducted rapid need assessments (RNAs) in the affected areas in Sindh and Balochistan. Results of these assessments will inform a more comprehensive plan of intervention that NDC will develop in the coming days, mobilizing additional resources for the response activities addressing the needs identified on the ground. The NDC, which is comprised of IOM, FAO, UNICEF, HANDS, WHO and ACTED was established in 2015 with the goal to assist at-risk and affected communities to prepare for, respond to and recover from natural disasters in Pakistan.  The current monsoon spell that started in the second week of August has caused widespread flooding and has led to extensive human and infrastructural damages across many parts of Pakistan. The province of Sindh, Balochistan and District Chitral in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have been most adversely affected by the rain-spells.Results of the RNA will inform a more comprehensive plan of intervention that NDC will be developed in the coming weeks, mobilizing additional resources for the response activities addressing the needs identified on the ground. Natural Disaster Consortium (NDC) has been established in 2015 under the Multi Year Humanitarian Programme (MYHP) funded by DFID with the goal to assist at-risk and affected communities to prepare for, respond to and recover from natural disasters in Pakistan. The Consortium is led by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and includes FAO, UNICEF, HANDS, WHO and ACTED.

Pakistan’s born Belgium Cricket team captain Shaheryar Butt creates history in T20 internationals

By; Asghar Ali Mubarak

The Belgium’s captain Shaheryar Butt creates history and became the first batsman to make a 50 & 100 on the same day in two different T20 international matches. .

He made 81 not out against Luxembourg and then 124 not out against the Czech Republic.

Interestingly, he played two more T20 games on Sunday at the same venue (Pierre Werner Cricket Ground, Walferdange, Luxembourg) against the same two opponents.

Talking from Belgium, the 38-year-old right-hand batsman said, “It probably hasn’t hit me yet to be a world record holder. Personally, I’m so happy and proud of myself and the team won and proved our progress, maybe in a few days and weeks I’ll sit back and then realise what I achieved from that innings”.

“Obviously it can be difficult to play back to back games. It’s tiring but after scoring runs it’s a good fatigue, because we want to play as much international T20 cricket as possible, it is something we deal with and will do more regularly in the future”.

Playing back to back games in Europe is not unusual.

“Due to funding and budgets when we meet other nations it’s more beneficial to organize two matches a day. Also every nation wants to improve their T20I rankings so more matches the better”, he further added.

Dave Mullet has been working on players’ fitness and helping them to remain fit.

Pakistan born Shaheryar Butt came to visit his family in Belgium and while staying there he started playing cricket. He liked the environment and decided to stay there.

EarlierIn the first men’s T20I series since the Coronavirus pandemic brought international cricket to a halt earlier this year, Belgium completed a clean sweep of their four matches against the Czech Republic and Luxembourg over the weekend to claim the inaugural Luxembourg T20I trophy, and bolster their position on the rankings table while the hosts narrowly pipped the Czechs to second place on the final table.

As the European cricket cautiously comes out of lockdown (Germany having cancelled a planned tour to the Netherlands last week), the series opener between Luxembourg and Czechia on Saturday proved to be the first official T20I to go ahead since the pandemic forced the international game in to hibernation, a few hours ahead of the night match between England and Pakistan that would take place that evening.

The hectic schedule crammed all six matches into just three days, with Belgium only arriving on Saturday to play all four of their matches in the space of under 30 hours – a grueling task even by Associate standards. The packed fixture did not seem to phase the Belgians however and allowed skipper Shaheryar Butt to become the first player to hit a T20I fifty and century on the same day, a feat which brought the series a degree of wider attention.

The previous day had seen the hosts and the Czechs share honours in the first two matches. Luxembourg opened their account with a convincing win in the rain-abbreviated series opener. Home skipper and eventual runner-up in the run aggregates, Joost Mees, top-scored with 40 off 24 as his side posted a solid 164-7 in the first innings before Ankush Nanda and Marcus Cope took three wickets apiece in the Czech reply, the visitors sliding from 55-1 to 89-9 before the weather put a stop to proceedings.

The Czech Republic struck back in the afternoon game, however, with Kushalkumar Mendon breaking a half-century stand between Luxembourg openers James Barker and Scott Brown, and finishing pick of the bowlers with 3-20 from his 4 overs as the hosts collapsed to 112 all out. Opener Honey Gori, who would be the only Czech bat to break three figures in the run aggregates over the series, hit a brisk 35 off 21 from the top of the order to put the visitors in control, and though he would fall in the 5th over the hosts would never quite get back in the game, the Czechs closing out the win with five wickets and six balls to spare.

Neither side would win another game however, as it was immediately clear when the Belgians arrived that their lowly ranking (they stood at 63rd in the ICC T20I rankings ahead of the series) belied the fact that Butt’s side were clearly a cut above the competition. Butt himself would lead the way, striking an unbeaten 81 off 45 in their first match against Luxembourg to see his side recover from a slow start to post 165-8. Right-arm quick Ashiqullah Said, (who plays his cricket with the European Championship-winning VOC side in the Netherlands) struck twice in the powerplay to remove both Luxembourg openers for single figures while Khalid Ahmadi had the dangerous Mees caught behind for 16, and despite a middle-order fightback led by Tony Whiteman, the hosts couldn’t find the requisite acceleration, finishing eight-down and 38 runs short.

The Czechs would fare little better in the day’s second game, though they initially looked to have the upper hand as two wickets and a run-out from Gori saw Belgium slide to 41-4 after 8 overs, but Butt’s arrival at the crease would transform the game. His brutal, unbeaten 125 off 50 featured 11 fours and 9 sixes and is the first T20I century ever struck by a batsman batting at six or lower. As a result of Butt’s onslaught, the Czechs would find themselves facing a target of 198 when they set out in reply. Despite a defiant 60 off 36 from number four Sudesh Wickramsekara, they would slide to a 46-run defeat. Ashiqullah, the stand-out with the ball, returned of 3-15 from his four.

Belgian head coach Corey Rutgers told Cricbuzz after the series, “Sherry had a freak first day, he just couldn’t stop middling it, and it’s been great that he’s brought us some attention from the wider cricket world. But it’s been a real team effort over the series and on Sunday the boys showed we’re not a one-man show.”

In their second match against the Czechs, it would be Wahidullah Usmani who led the counter-attack after Belgium had lost both openers for a duck and Butt was dismissed for the first time in the series (run out by Naveed Ahmed for 2 runs). Usmani’s 72 off 50 provided the backbone to an eventual total of 161-6, which would prove well beyond the Czech batsmen. Ashiqullah and new-ball partner Murid Ekrami gave up just 18 runs between them from eight overs and claimed a wicket apiece, while a searing bouncer from Said forced Czech skipper Ed Knowles out of the game, having broken a finger in the act of fending the ball away. The chase was likewise broken, the remaining Czech batsmen struggling to a total of just 74-7 by the close.

The Belgians would complete their perfect run in the final match against Luxembourg, posting 184-8 with Saber Zakhil hitting 44 off 16 from number 7, which would prove well beyond the reach of their hosts. With support from Vikram Vijh, home captain Joost Mees would again steady things after the early loss of both openers, but though his unbeaten 67 was enough to see his side finish ahead of the Czechs on net run rate, Belgium’s discipline in the field would ensure the asking rate would keep climbing throughout the chase, the home side eventually coming up 50 runs short of the target.

Belgium’s perfect run in the tourney sees them leapfrog both their opponents in the ICC T20I Rankings, and constitutes a significant step forward in their longer-term ambitions in both the T20 and 50-over formats. Since the effective abolition of regional 50-over tournaments, the ICC T20 rankings are the only route that lower-ranked Associates have to qualify for the lowest tier of ICC 50-over competitions – the Cricket World Cup Challenge League.

As Rutgers explained after the series; “We had a two-year plan, aiming to break into the top 32 of the T20I rankings, and put a lot of work putting together a schedule that would give us a shot at that. Corona has complicated things considerably, but this weekend has helped a lot. We were always looking to take four wins from four, and the boys got it done. I think our ranking has jumped from 63 to 46, and rankings really mean something for us as without regional 50-over qualifiers that’s the only way to get onto the 50-over ladder.”

“Huge credit to Luxembourg for getting these games organized. There’s been so much cancelled even in the last few weeks with Germany calling off their tours, been a privilege to be a part of the first T20I series since the pandemic hit”
