Pakistan won against Thailand in Davis Cup group finals, Aisam-ul-Haq and Aqeel Khan won against their Thai players

By;Asghar Ali Mubarak

ISLAMABAD – Thanks to Pakistani top tennis players Aisam-ul-Haq and Aqeel Khan providing the opportunity Pakistan led the opening day of the Davis Cup Asia-Oceania Group-II final against Thailand played at the grass courts of Pakistan Sports Complex, Islamabad, by 2-0. In the opening match, which lasted for an hour and 46 minutes, Pakistan’s Aqeel Khan beat Wishaya Trongcharoenchaikul of Thailand by 3-0 (6-3, 6-4, 6-4).In the second match, Aisam-ul-Haq outclassed Thailand’s Kittiphong Wachiramanowong 3-0 (6-1, 6-0, 6-4).Speaking to media after the end of the matches, Aisam said he wasn’t expecting such an easy contest against his Thai counterpart.“We had a huge advantage playing on the grass court, but it would have been a tougher competition if we had played on clay,” he said. Aqeel said the duo was under pressure because of the home crowd but they played positively and won their matches. The Pakistan tennis star Aisam-ul-Haq was the big hope for Pakistan Davis Cup Group II final against Thailand at Islamabad Pakistan. Pakistan has produced some very talented tennis players over the years, both men and women. But the stature of Aisamul Haq Qureshi is above all. Pakistan tennis has become synonymous with Aisam, the international star who earned recognition and fame due to his numerous accomplishments over the past decade. He is the only Pakistan tennis player to reach the final of a Grand Slam. Aisam’s success has been predated by his multiple years of toil at international level, where relentless pursuit of his ambition helped him eventually breakthrough. In the process, he spent millions of rupees on coaching and travelling extensively. As Pakistan No. 1, Asiam has traditionally led Pakistan’s Davis Cup campaigns. After shocking New Zealand in the Asia-Oceania Zone Group I second round play-off in 2004 to survive relegation, he took them to the World Group Play-offs for the first time in 2005, before they were beaten by Chile. He has won the most Davis Cup matches for Pakistan, being the most successful singles and doubles player from his country ever. He is also part of the most successful doubles pairing for Pakistan with Aqeel Khan in the country’s sporting history.Aisam prefers the quicker grass courts and has had seen his greatest success on grass and hard courts. His playing style is serve-and-volley, relying on his serve to win him points by putting pressure on his opponents. Aisam’s clothing and shoes sponsor is Lotto. On 29 March 2008, Aisam signed an agreement with Pepsi Cola for sponsorship of coach for one year. He became the first Pakistan sportsman who wasn’t a cricketer to star in a Pepsi advertisement and become one of their brand ambassadors. Aisam teamed with Israeli player Amir Hadad during Wimbledon and the US Open tournaments in 2002. He is now a member of the ‘Champions for Peace’ club, a group of 54 athletes committed to serving peace in the world through sport, created by Peace and Sport, a Monaco-based international organisation. In November 2010 Aisam was appointed The United Nations Development Programmers (UNDP) goodwill ambassador. Aisam, who by virtue of spending his time playing on the Challenger Circuit and then the ATP World Tour, has been Pakistan’s official numerous despite ignoring the domestic circuit for the last so many years. Aisam could easily be termed as the most accomplished player of Pakistan, having made main draw appearances at Wimbledon and the US Open, though he deservedly acquired greater acclaim and fame upon reaching the US Open doubles finals (men and mixed) in 2010: men’s doubles while partnering with Rohan Bopanna of India and mixed doubles while partnering with Kvita Peschke of Czech Republic. A prolonged stint in the doubles top 10 further cemented his status as a contemporary great.Aisam was born and grew up in Lahore with swimming, cricket and football being his favorite pastimes at his alma-mater Crescent Model Higher Secondary School. He started playing tennis late at age of 14, when his maternal grandfather and first coach, Khawaja Iftikhar Ahmed, a former 10-time national champion, took him to a tennis club in Model Town Lahore. His maternal grandfather Iftikhar was also the All-British India champion, before Pakistan split from British India in 1947. His mother, Nosheen Ihtsham, was also a former women’s tennis champion. At age 16, the ITF sponsored Aisam for two years. He won the Pakistan International Junior Championships and went on to win the Casablanca Cup in Mexico and the LTA International Junior Championships in Roehampton, where he beat Olivier Rochus, Andy Ram, and Taylor Dent. In the World Super Junior Championships, he beat Andy Roddick. At 18, he was a top-20 junior player and decided to turn pro. As a junior, he was coached by LTA. Aisam has been coached by American Robert Davis since 1998. Robert has served as national coach for Peru, Panama, Thailand, and Indonesia.

As a writer, Aisam contributes to the ATP’s Deuce Magazine, Tennis Magazine USA, Tennis.com, Tennis Magazine Australia, and ITF publications, as well as non-sporting publications and newspapers.Aisam was awarded the Arthur Ashe Humanitarian of the Year for 2010 along with his doubles tennis partner Bopanna of India. Along with Bopanna, Aisam received the 2010 ‘Peace and Sport Image of the Year’ award in recognition of their dedicated efforts to spread the message of peace through sport. Aisam and his doubles partner Bopanna also created a campaign, ‘Stop War Start Tennis’, with their goal to play a match on the border of India and Pakistan. He was also given the Pakistan President’s Award for Performance in 2002, the Salam Pakistan Youth Award by the President of Pakistan in 2007 and was runner-up for the 2003 Anne Frank Award for Moral Courage by the Anne Frank Trust, UK. In 2011, he was awarded Lux Style Award for Most Stylish Sports Person. The Davis Cup Group II final is scheduled from September 15 to 17 September 2017.The Thailand team reached Pakistan yesterday to participate in the Davis Cup. Along with Muhammad Abid Ali Akbar, Abid Mushtaq, Shahzad Khan and Muzami Murtaza are participating in the trials under the supervision of non-playing captain Muhammad Khalid also in the Davis Cup trials at Pakistan Sports Complex. The Pakistan Davis Cup team represents Pakistan in Davis Cup tennis competition and is governed by the Pakistan Tennis Federation. Pakistan currently competes in the Asia/Oceania Zone of Group II. Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) president Salim Saifullah Khan Said he is optimistic about Pakistan team’s chances in the Davis Cup Asia-Oceania Group-II final against Thailand. Salim said: “I know Thailand has a very competitive and balanced team and they have played excellent tennis throughout the campaign, but we are not less than them and will give them a good run for their money. I am confident enough that Pakistan team has every reason to stand bright chances of winning the tie. I request all tennis lovers to join us at the venue on 15th to 17th and support their team and tennis. I thank the ITF, our security agencies, CDA and all those who stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the federation.” The Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) Secretary Sanaullah Aman while talking to media stated that the three tournaments would be held in November and December.“Foreign players would be seen in action in these events while International Tennis Federation (ITF) officials would also be visiting here,” said Sanaullah Aman .He said more courts would also be prepared for these international tournaments. He also praised ITF for allotting Pakistan these three international tournaments.“ITF would also give more international events to Pakistan after successful holding of these three tournaments,” he said. He said foreign players would be provided with fool-proof security and invitations would soon be sent to foreign players for participation in international tournaments. Speaking about Pakistan-Thailand Davis Cup Group II final, he said he has high hopes for the team to do well in Davis Cup.

PCB refused to issue accreditation 1996 world cup fame Pakistani journalist Asghar AliNajam sethi PCB

By; A Sports correspondent

Islamabad-The PCB does not have a media policy, on the historical occasions, the PCB media officials refused to issue accreditation card to world cup 1996 fame world’s renowned Pakistani journalist. Pakistan Cricket Bard media department totally failed to highlight the soft image of the Pakistan. The liking and disliking policy was showed during the issue of media accreditation cards for local’s media as well national media. Chairman Najam Sethi is himself a seasoned journalist and knows its importance very well, but why PCB’s media people are not being utilized properly is incomprehensible. It is most surprising that all media officers are sitting at PCB head office in Lahore. Chairman Najam Sethi has been facing print and electronic media critics with no satisfactory responses or rebuttals. There was no responsible media officer for the entire series to facilitate the national media in this regards. Asghar Ali Mubarak who is covering sports for last more than 30 years for world’s leading newspaper. Asghar Ali Mubarak approached for a media accreditation on 4th September 2017 but he was categorically refused by PCB media department even for a single match. ‘This is very un fortunate act of PCB ‘’I fought legal battle for the dignity, honor, prestige and respect of Pakistani sports journalism after the1996 cricket world cup after defamatory remarks by English captain Mike Atherton’’ he added.“The world recognizes the significant sacrifices the Pakistan military has made in the fight against terrorism’’ beside other I have lost my real brother Mazar Ali Mubarak in terrorist attack at Rawalpindi ’’Asghar Ali added. He further stated that ICC has done a tremendous job bringing back international cricket. ‘’ I think that without the all-out support of the ICC it would not have been possible to arrange the tour of World XI for T20 international Independence Cup series. “Punjab government and our security agencies also played a vital role in ensuring this elite cricket event by providing foolproof security to the foreign teams and officials ‘’he concluded. Interestingly there is no media official appointed other cricket promoting cities likes Karachi, Faisalabad, Peshawar, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Multan etc .It is very unfortunate that PCB authorities are neglecting such a big city, whose population is more than dozens of countries. They don’t even realize its importance from the marketing point of view. As far as the professional efficiency of its media officials are concerned, serious questioned have been raised. If a reporter want approached to so-called media professionals to ask them a simple thing related to PCB or cricket issues, they only say they don’t know and they busy in some other commitment and ask the direct call Chairman Najam Sethi (0300 8477902) or other officials concerned. And it takes two to three days. If a question is hard and its answer is likely to bring PCB’s inefficiency to the fore, he will not be available for any comment
More than 25 non professionals so called media officials were appointed in the PCB’s media, social media and marketing department on lucrative salaries and lavish perks. However there are totally unaware how deal media due lack of knowledge, educational back ground and poor communication skills. The performances during the tour of World XI for T20 international Independence Cup series was not available anywhere. Even the Pakistan Cricket Bard media department’s Raza Rashid Kitchlew
Senior Manager Media (0301 8440280 raza.kitchlew@pcb.com.pk
razakitch@gmail.com),Shakeel Khan, (0301 8440284 shakeel.khan@pcb.com.pk,shakeelkhan.pcb@gmail.com
)Zeeshan Bhatti (0321 8851755) did not bothered to received a single call to contact on their given numbers . On the historical occasions the PCB media officials have failed high light the soft image of PCB due their liking and disliking dirty politics. PCB media officials have also failed to highlight what PCB is doing and what its future plans are for tackling the issues confronting Pakistan cricket. PCB high officials feel that no policy is the best policy in the current circumstances. A lot of people have been appointed in the media and social media department but nobody knows who their boss is. Even they themselves don’t know. Some of them must be intelligent, vibrant, knowledgeable and studious but they have not been trained how to respond to journalists and how to highlight PCB’s activities. If they are compared with other Test playing countries a big difference is observed. Perhaps the government of Punjab, the most populated province in the country, will not have so many media and social media officials as PCB has. If we see the performance of these people, one thing is clear that there is no media policy in the PCB. If we visit the PCB website, everything should become clear: what PCB is doing, news, views, analyses and stories. In the domestic players search bar just the name bar is working and the rest are useless. Even the stats and profiles of the international players are not given. The laziness of PCB media officials and website officials can be judged from the fact that International Calendar has not been updated scheduled events. And no one in the PCB is taking notice. PCB high ups may not see such mistakes due to their workload but even Chief Operating Officer (COO) Subhan Ahmed, Member PCB Governing Board Shakil Shaikh and other high officials also fail to take notice of this.
There is no detail of women cricket calendar even though it is given a lot of importance at international level. Even the domestic calendar is not updated. The Vintage section has not been updated since November 2014. In Blogs section, there has been no new addition. The Editor’s Pick has not been updated since September 2016. It seems that PCB has decided itself that it does not want media promotion. A lot of important work related to media and marketing has been outsourced. Cricket lovers did not forget that in last English tour in 2016, four media persons travelled to England, each of them for fifteen days, only for joy trip. Informed sources say that the people appointed in the media department cannot write a single line of press release and don’t know what the requirements of a news item are.
The PCB media officials always visited foreign countries with the team. What is their standing in journalism? For example Aun Zaidi is working as head of PCB’s social media team nothing new on social media. Media department failed to celebrate restoration of international cricket activities in Pakistan. Even children can spread anything on social media they have dozens of tricks to highlight their issues. In just a few minutes, hundreds of thousands of people are viewing and sharing their updates International players like Lily Singh, an Indian-origin Canadian youtuber, has more than 10 million subscribers. And there are scores of people who have millions of followers. And PCB’s? Forget it!
Due to PCB policy the Pakistan’s great players already very upset and fed up ‘’Shahid Khan Afridi ,Younus Khan is the current examples the both great players refused due to non professional attitude of entire PCB management and as protest ‘’Shahid Khan Afridi was seen in general stand with his fanes. PCB’s heavy media management failed to highlight Pakistan sacrifice war against terrorism during the tour of World XI for T20 international Independence Cup series. It mentioned here that the PCB is responsible for coordinating activities in respect of the game of cricket in all manners and ways, including the formulation of the laws of the game, its constituent members and other subordinate bodies and to organize national tournaments and International matches within the country. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is the governing body for cricket in Pakistan. It is also responsible for the promotion and expansion of the game through its associate and affiliate members throughout the country. Its responsibilities include management of the game at the highest level and the organization of various domestic tournaments at the national level.
PCB also administers the system that provides the maintenance of discipline amongst the constituent members and, by the constituent members, overall cricketing bodies and individuals under their control.

Blame game served no one’s interest, counterproductive in the efforts to counter terrorism; Pakistani Foreign Office Spokesman Nafees Zakaria
By;Asghar Ali Mubarak NAFEES
Islamabad-The Pakistani Foreign Office Spokesman Nafees Zakaria said the blame game served no one’s interest and was counterproductive in the efforts to counter terrorism. This was stated by the Foreign Office Spokesman Nafees Zakaria said at his weekly media briefing in Islamabad, saying it was one of salient converging points discussed when the Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif undertook visits to China, Iran and Turkey. The Pakistani Foreign Office Spokesman Nafees Zakaria said that the foreign minister’s visits to review the latest developments and consult regional Countries were successful in terms of convergence of interest and viewpoints on the situation in the region including Afghanistan. The Pakistani Foreign Office Spokesman Nafees Zakaria said that it was agreed by the four Countries’ leadership that peace in Afghanistan was important for stability in the region while no military solution to Afghan conflict seemed having appeared result-oriented. The Pakistani Foreign Office Spokesman Nafees Zakaria said, the leaders agreed that regional solution of the situation lied in peaceful Afghanistan, and they urged the Afghan owned and Afghan led dialogue for peace in the war-stricken Country. The three Countries acknowledged that Pakistan had contributed immensely in the fight against terrorism and had rendered unprecedented sacrifices as well as suffered human and economic losses, the Spokesman told. The Pakistani Foreign Office Spokesman Nafees Zakaria said that leaders of Pakistan, China, Iran and Turkey were of the view that presence of terrorist outfits in Afghanistan and safe havens were a threat to regional Countries. They believed that terrorism was a global phenomenon and hence warrants global cooperation, he said. The Pakistani Foreign Office Spokesman Nafees Zakaria further stated that the leadership of Pakistan and mentioned three Countries also agreed that for lasting regional peace, resolution of disputes like Kashmir was important. He said that the leadership considered human rights violations in Indian Occupied Kashmir as a matter of serious concern and condemnable. The Pakistani Foreign Office Spokesman Nafees Zakaria stated that sale of advanced military technology and equipment by the United States to India would accentuate military imbalance and undermine strategic stability in South Asia. The Pakistani Foreign Office Spokesman Nafees Zakaria said the sale also encourages India to adopt aggressive military doctrine and contemplate military adventures. He said transfer of modern military hardware and technologies as well as repeated exceptions for India also disincentives New Delhi to engage in efforts to establish Strategic Restraint Regime. He said Pakistan has repeatedly been calling for such a regime for durable security architecture in the region. The spokesperson said that RAW agent Kulbhushan Yadav was launched by India to carry out subversive activities in Pakistan and now New Delhi is trying to divert attention from the actual issue by presenting it as a humanitarian one. He said Pakistan is committed to supporting all initiatives aimed at peace and stability in Afghanistan. He told a questioner that Pakistan has raised the issue of plight of Rohingya Muslims in Rakhine at different forums. The Foreign Office said on that the sale of weapons between India and US is causing instability in the region. The Pakistani Foreign Office Spokesman Nafees Zakaria said in his weekly press briefing that Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif will meet his Afghan counterpart along the sidelines of the 72nd session of United Nations General Assembly in New York next week. From the statements of TTP terrorist Ehsanullah Ehsan and Indian spy Kulbhushan Jadhav it is apparent that India is causing damage to Pakistan, the FO said. There exist ups and downs in relations between countries said the spokesman. The recent trips of Asif to Turkey, Iran and China were successful, said Zakaria. The foreign minister recently concluded visits to the three countries and held important meetings. Pakistan decided to approach regional countries after US President Donald Trump announced his controversial new policy for South Asia, which included ‘anti-Pakistan’ remarks. Since then, Pakistan has gone into a diplomatic offensive, engaging regional countries that share its point of view with regards to Afghanistan. Earlier in June, Donald Trump’s administration confirmed it had given the green light to the $366 million sale of a transport carrier to India, along with a separate purchase of around 20 drones. “To review the latest developments and consult regional countries, the Foreign Minister undertook visits to China, Iran and Turkey. The visits were successful in terms of convergence of interest and viewpoints on the situation in the region, including Afghanistan,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Nafees Zakaria said. The visit was conducted after President Donald Trump announced policy for Afghanistan and the region that was viewed in the region as continuation of the military option in Afghanistan.Regional countries are now of the view that the military option has not been successful over the past 17 years and the focus should be shifted to political dialogue to end the war.
Opening Remarks

Bismillah IrRehman NirRahim Assalaam Alaikum

Distinguished friends, ladies & gentlemen! Last week the Foreign Minister had his first media briefing in his new capacity. The backdrop was recent developments in this region, subsequent discussions in the Cabinet, National Security Committee, Parliament of Pakistan and Envoys’ Conference of selected Ambassadors posted in Capitals directly relevant in the context the developments.

To review the latest developments and consult regional countries, the Foreign Minister undertook visits to China, Iran and Turkey. The visits were successful in terms of convergence of interest and viewpoints on the situation in the region, including Afghanistan. Salient converging points were: (1)Peace in Afghanistan is important for stability in the region; (2) No military solution of Afghan conflict; (3)Regional solution of the situation in Afghanistan; (4) Afghan owned and Afghan led dialogue for peace;(5) Pakistan has contributed immensely in the fight against terrorism and has rendered unprecedented sacrifices, suffered human and economic losses; (6) Presence of terrorist outfits in Afghanistan and safe havens are a threat to regional countries; (7) Terrorism is a global phenomenon and hence warrants global cooperation; (8) Blame game serves no one’s interest and is counterproductive in the efforts to counter terrorism; (9) For lasting regional peace, resolution of disputes like Kashmir is important; and (10)Human rights violations in IoK are a matter of serious concern and condemnable.

We have noted that the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights has strongly condemned human rights violations committed by Hindu terrorists, persecution of religious minorities and deplored position taken by India in the context of Rohingya Muslims.

Indian occupation forces continue to commit crimes against innocent Kashmiris with impunity. Amnesty Int’l has demanded ban on pellet guns, which has blinded scores of Kashmiris including children and students, both girls and boys. In its 112 pages report, Amnesty Int’l has, inter alia, said that the effects of these weapons will be felt for years to come. The lives of those blinded have entirely changed and they are struggling to cope. Pellet guns are used only against Kashmiris in IoK.

Since 1st September, atrocities by Indian occupation forces have caused martyrdom of 09 Kashmiris[[Ishfaq Ahmad Paddar, Pervaiz Ahmed Wani and 24-year old B-Ed student Nayeem Ahmed Najar, Maqsood Ahmed Shah, Shahid Ahmed Shiekh, Tariq Ahmad Bhat, Altaf Ahmad Rather, Dawood Ahmad Khan (25) a final year graduate student and Sayar Ahmad Wani, (20)]] and injured 74, in Kulgam, Sopore, Srinagar, and Pulwama areas. Pellet guns have been used inhumanly. Dozens have been arrested during illegal house raids. Detention and inhuman treatment of Kashmiri leaders continues, which we condemn.

Now the Floor is open for Questions
Question

In IoK Kashmiris solemnly observed the death anniversary of Quaid-e-Azam, with slogans of Pakistan Zindabad. How does Pakistan see such a display of affection, especially when martyred Kashmiris prefer buried wrapped in Pakistani flag? Even after the passage of 70 years, Kashmiris look towards us with hope. Your comments please! (Asghar Ali Mubarak – Daily Mail Islamabad)

Answer

Pakistan pledges its political, moral and diplomatic support to the Kashmiri movement. People of Indian occupied Jammu & Kashmir have withstood the tyranny and brutality of the Indian Armed forces with sheer determination and resolve. Their affection for Pakistan has only grown which is evident by the fact that Pakistani flags are waved all over Jammu & Kashmir. No amount of oppression will subdue the passion and zeal of the Kashmiris. For the people of Pakistan, the Kashmiris in IoK live in our hearts and we follow with pain their suffering. They are our brothers and sisters and as the saying of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) goes, ‘if one part of your body hurts, the pain is felt by the whole body’. Pakistan will continue to steadfastly support Kashmiris’ legitimate movement for self-determination morally, diplomatically and politically.

Question

As we saw yesterday, Indian CFVs continued. Pakistan Foreign Office has once again summoned Indian DHC to lodge protest against Indian forces’ unprovoked ceasefire violations on LoC. India violates ceasefire agreement of 2003 frequently. How do you see the Indian malicious designs? What can Pakistan do on ground to deter Indian belligerence across LoC? (Shabbir Waghra – PTV World)

Answer

Pakistan strongly condemns the unprovoked ceasefire violations by India. Despite calls for restraint, India continues to indulge in ceasefire violations. In 2017 to date, Indian forces have carried out more than 700 ceasefire violations along the Line of Control and the Working Boundary, resulting in the Shahadat of 30 innocent civilians and injuries to 113, as compared to 382 ceasefire violations in 2016. Pakistan has lodged strong protest with the Indian Government against deliberate targeting of innocent civilians including women and children. Our Armed forces are capable of responding to any misadventure carried out by the Indian forces.

Question

Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif said in a TV interview last night that he will be proceeding to US tonight, and will stay there for two weeks in connection with UNGA Session. Will he hold meetings with US officials, as well as officials from other countries? What is the agenda of his visit? (Shahid Maitla – ARY News)

Supplementary Question

Prime Minister will be travelling to US for the UNGA Session shortly. Are there any sideline meetings with world leaders scheduled so far? Will he be attending the breakfast meeting normally hosted by US President Donald Trump every year on the sidelines? (Naveed Akbar – Daily Duniya)

Answer

Regarding Mr. Shahid Maitla’s question, the occasions such as UNGA Session, afford an opportunity to the world leaders to meet their counterparts and share views on issues of mutual interest. In the past also, sideline meetings were scheduled. This time also there may be meetings but I don’t have the schedule at the moment. We may share the details with you, when available.

As for Mr. Naveed Akbar’s question, I am not aware of Prime Minister’s schedule of meetings at UNGA at this point in time. I may seek details and share, when available.

Question

Reportedly, senior Indian army personnel has called LoC an imaginary line, and said that surgical strikes were a message to Pakistan that this line could be crossed anytime. How do you see the war-mongering statements coming from Indian leadership?

Second, during the recent visit of Afghan Foreign Minister to India, there were talks to revive Strategic Partnership Agreement (SPA). In their joint discourse, there were subtle indications towards Pakistan through their reference to LeT and JeM, and the purported attacks of these terrorist organizations in Afghanistan and the neighbourhood. Please comment! (Shaukat Paracha – AAJ TV)

Supplementary Question

Reportedly, US military sales to India have gone from zero to US $15bn in one decade. India has also become a major defence and strategic partner. Indo-US relationship is developing more in the military domain than economic. Your views! (Essa Naqvi – Dunya TV)

Answer

As to Mr. Shaukat Paracha’s first question, Indian Army often makes false claims in order to gain popularity among the Indian public and media. Pakistan, on the other hand, has encouraged peaceful engagement with India and emphasized confidence building measures. However, our good gestures have not been reciprocated by India. In fact, such statements are a continuation of the long prevailing Indian mindset. If you look at the statements of various Indian leaders and officials, you will be able to identify a pattern, which is based on anti Pakistan and anti-Muslim rhetoric by deepening the communal lines in the society. Beef ban, lynching of Muslims and a surge of violence in Indian occupied Jammu & Kashmir and denial of freedom to practice religion like offering Juma prayers, testify this assertion.

Regarding your second question, we do not comment on relations between two sovereign states. The Foreign Minister spoke with his Afghan counterpart to discuss bilateral relations between the two countries. He had underlined Pakistan’s support for Afghan owned and Afghan led peace process for bringing lasting peace and stability in Afghanistan. The two Foreign Ministers also agreed to meet on the sidelines of UNGA in New York, later this month. It is unfortunate that India remains obsessed with its campaign to malign Pakistan. Those who get misled are pitiable.

With regard to Mr. Essa’s question, you have referred to some reports in the context. You would recall that during Indian Prime Minister’s visit to Washington in June this year, a major deal for sale of Guardian UAVs (submarine drones) was finalized. We had expressed our concerns on the sale of advanced military technologies to India. We believe that such sales accentuate military imbalances in the region and undermine strategic stability in South Asia. This further emboldens India to adopt aggressive military doctrines and even contemplate military adventurism. Transfers of modern military hardware and technologies as well as repeated exceptions made for India have dis-incentivized India to engage in efforts to establish a strategic restrain regime and durable security architecture in the region.

Question

What is Foreign Office’s stance on the two Pakistani diplomats been implicated by FIA in alleged drug dealing case? We have received FIA’s letter in this regard. (Bashir Chaudhry – Channel 24)

Answer

The matter that you are referring has already been investigated by an Inter-Ministerial Committee under Ministry of Interior and as nothing was found against the two officials, the Committee had exonerated them.

Question

Brutal murder of Journalist Gauri Lankesh, by Hindu terrorists is a constant reminder to the International Community of the toll Hindutva ideology is taking on freedom of speech and other rights and growing intolerance in India. Your comments in the light of India’s claim of being world’s largest democracy!(Saima Shabbir – Bol TV)

Supplementary Question

You must be aware that Indian occupation forces have arrested a prominent photo-journalist, Mr. Kamran Yousaf in IoK, on the fake charges of stone pelting. We all know that his graphic photography of Indian atrocities in IoK had gone viral on social media. He has been arrested for more than two weeks now. What is your response on his arrest on fake allegations? (Abid Khurshid – ATV)

Answer

Regarding Ms. Saima Shabbir’s question, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and Amnesty Int’l have condemned India for references contained in your question. Growing intolerance in India, since the Modi Government came to power, has raised concerns globally. The freedom of speech has been under continuous threat by the Hindu terrorist elements belonging to RSS, VHP, Bajrang Dal, and others, who are bent upon silencing every sane and liberal voice. Gauri Lankesh’s death has been celebrated by Hindutva right-wingers, which reflects the current mindset of the Modi Government. We believe that“The UN Special Rapporteur on promotion and protection of the right to freedom of opinion and expression, The Special Rapporteur on the situation of Human Rights defenders and The Special Rapporteur on extra judicial, summary or arbitrary executions” have taken note of these crimes against humanity.

As to Mr. Abid’s question, what you are referring is one of the many incidents of numerous journalists and other innocent Kashmiris being attacked and brutalized by Indian occupation forces in IoK. Besides this, there have been numerous fake encounters in which innocent Kashmiris have been killed. I have already mentioned in my opening remarks on how Indian occupation forces are carrying out illegal house raids and arbitrary arrests of innocent civilians, without a word about their welfare or whether they are alive or buried somewhere in unnamed and unknown graves. Such gross human rights violations are being constantly committed by Indian occupation forces with impunity, which is highly condemnable. We have taken up the matter forcefully with the International community and will continue to do so until the perpetrators are held accountable for their crimes against humanity.

Question

In IoK Kashmiris solemnly observed the death anniversary of Quaid-e-Azam, with slogans of Pakistan Zindabad. Question

First, Pakistan has rejected all allegations made by Trump’s Afghanistan & South Asia policy. With reference to his claim that Pakistan was given billions of dollars in military assistance, do you have a consolidated figure of the amount of military assistance given to Pakistan, including in Coalition Support Fund since 9/11?

Second, in a television interview yesterday, Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif said that one of the objectives of his recent visit to regional countries was to pressurize some countries. Your comments! (Ali Hussain – Business Recorder)

Supplementary Questions

Is Foreign Office well prepared to brief officials of US administration on Pakistan stance in the wake of Trump’s Afghanistan & South Asia policy, since Foreign Minister staying there for more than two weeks? (Shahid Rehman – Kyodo News Agency)

Supplementary Questions

During the upcoming UNGA Session where our Prime Minister will be accompanied by the Foreign Minister, are there any meetings scheduled with the US officials? (Anwar Abbas – Waqat News)

Answer

As to the last question, we may share details when available.

As to Mr. Shahid’s question, I have responded earlier also that in the backdrop of recent development in this region, a comprehensive discussion took place at various forums within Pakistan including the Federal Cabinet, National Security Committee, Parliament and the Envoys’ Conference. All these meetings took stock of the developments taking place in this region and beyond. It was in this context that Foreign Minister undertook the recent visit to regional countries.

Preparations for Prime Minister and his delegation’s visit for the UNGA Session are ongoing. Foreign Minister, in his media interaction last week, mentioned that Pakistan will uphold its core national interests while maintaining mutually beneficial relations with other countries. Our relationship with many countries has seen many progressive trends in this regard.

Regarding Foreign Minister’s visit to regional countries, there was convergence of interests on many issues, as I also mentioned in my opening remarks, including on finding a regional solution to the Afghanistan situation, under Afghan led and Afghan owned peace initiative.

On the question regarding statistics for US assistance, I don’t have details readily available.

Question

Mr. Shyam Saran, the former Indian diplomat’s admitted in his book that India was responsible for scuttling the settlement of two big contentious issues viz. ‘Siachen’ and ‘Sir Creek’ when they were ripe for resolution. It confirms that its India not interested in peace with Pakistan. Your comments! (Amjad Ali – PTV News) (Also asked by Tariq Sial – INN/Jinnah News)

Answer

India has never been sincere in the efforts towards peace in the region. Indian propaganda to malign Pakistan has been exposed many times. Indian state institutions’ connivance with the Hindu terrorist organization, RSS, to stage terrorist attacks on its own soil and blame it on Indian Muslims, and/ or alleged non-state actors in Pakistan, stood exposed in the IG Police of Maharashtra, S.M.Mushrif’s book:‘Who killed Karkare’. Confessions of Kulbhushan, Ehsanullah Ehsan and statement of Chuck Hagel are a testimony to the Indian involvement in perpetrating terrorism, terror financing and use of Afghan soil against Pakistan. Recent episodes of blockade of one of its neighbours, which is a landlocked country, by India for 4 months, interference in that country’s internal affairs, Indian recent border violation of another sovereign neighbour, their meddling in other SAARC neighbours’ internal affairs, subversive activities in Balochistan, etc. are some of many examples of a country that has been using false pretexts to malign others and appear as a victim.

Question

You mentioned that the Foreign Minister’s visit to regional countries was successful in that a regional consensus was developed viz-a-viz the solution of the Afghan problem. US Ambassador to Pakistan has recently suggested to revive the previous 6+1 process for Afghanistan. Since we are talking about the regional role, will there be a change of situation if 6+1 is held now? (Fakhur ur Rehman – SAMAA TV)

Answer

With regard to bringing peace and stability in Afghanistan, there are many initiatives. There is Heart of Asia (Istanbul Process), QCG, Moscow talks, Brussels conference, Kabul Process, etc. wherein Pakistan’s position is well known and that is we want to see peace and stability in Afghanistan. It is our principled position that Pakistan will support all Afghan owned and Afghan led initiatives aimed at bringing peace and stability in Afghanistan. Pakistan has played a constructive role in the Afghan peace processes and remains committed to that end. Pakistan wants lasting peace and stability in Afghanistan.

Question

India is investing in Afghanistan to serve its own interests, and increasing its bilateral ties with the country. In your view, as India is using its influence in Afghanistan to use it against Pakistan, are there any prospects for peace in the region? (Khawaja Nayyar Iqbal – Kashmir Posts)

Answer

I have responded to similar questions earlier also. As a matter of policy, we do not comment on the bilateral relations between any two countries. However, we remain concerned that the Afghan soil continues to be used by India against Pakistan. Conflict in Afghanistan is persisting for around four decades, which has created ungoverned spaces there, which have become safe havens for various terrorist outfits. India is also exploiting this situation there against Pakistan. We have raised this issue not only bilaterally with many countries, but also at the UN. We have submitted dossiers to the UN in the context of Indian state institutions’ involvement in perpetrating terrorism, terror financing and subversive activities in Pakistan. No one would endorse Indian activities of this nature.

Question

My question is related to the plight of Rohingya’s Muslims. What is the Pakistani government doing to alleviate this crisis?

Second has Pakistan made contacts with any other country, particularly China with regard to the Myanmar issue? (Naeem Jadoon – Khabrain)

Answer

Pakistan’s position on Rohingya Muslims issue is already in the public domain. Foreign Minister issued a statement, Cabinet adopted a Resolution, and Pakistan participated at the highest level in the OIC Special Session on the plight of Rohingyas on the sidelines of OIC Science and Technology Summit in Kazakhstan. Our position on this issue is very clear. We have reiterated our commitment to providing humanitarian assistance to the Rohingya Muslims, and called upon Myanmar Government for implementation of the Kofi Annan Commission Report. Pakistan also supports other propositions, which calls the Myanmar Government to take urgent measures to address this issue. Pakistan has also recently summoned the Myanmar Ambassador to lodge protest.

Question

Prime Minister had suggested a joint operation on the Pak-Afghan border recently. Has Pakistan formally conveyed this to the Afghan government and, if so, have we received a response? (Rabia Pir – Voice of America Diva Radio)

Answer

I think what was mentioned in the media reports were about joint patrolling of the border. I don’t have details.

Question

India has submitted its memorial on Kulbushan Jhadev case in the ICJ. Has Pakistan officially requested details of this memorial from ICJ so far? When will Pakistan submit its response? (Mona Khan – Geo TV)

Supplementary Question

Who will be adhoc judge from Pakistan in ICJ, who will represent as a lawyer?

(Syed Aun Sherazi – Sach TV)

Answer

India has submitted its memorial on 13th September 2017. MEA also issued statement in this regard. Pakistan will submit its counter memorial to ICJ by 13 December 2017. However, we should be mindful of the case at hand. India is trying to bring out the humanitarian aspect of a person who has made a public confession on how he was launched by India to carry out subversive and terrorist activities in Pakistan. Commander Kulbushan Jhadev is on record to have confessed many terrorist attacks within Pakistan, which caused loss of many precious and innocent lives of Pakistanis and inflicted material losses. Many citizens also suffered from life threatening and lifetime injuries due to Commander Jhadev’s subversive activities. Therefore, we must be mindful of India’s mischievous designs and motive. Since India was caught red-handed with irrefutable evidence in a case in which its state institutions and state actors are involved in terrorism, terror financing and subversive activities in a sovereign state, it is trying to divert international community’s attention from the real issue. Commander Kulbushan Jhadev and his accomplices caused immense sufferings to the Pakistani nation. We must be mindful of this fact while talking about him.

Question

How do you comment on the reports that because the Pakistani establishment has financial and military ties with Myanmar, Pakistan has given a muted response to the plight Rohingya Muslims, whereas their situation is as intense, if not less, as of Kashmiris in IoK. Your comments please! (Syed Mohsin Raza – Asas Group of Publications)

Answer

Our stance on Rohingya Muslims is very clear and already in the public domain. I have already given an elaborate response to an earlier question.

‘Tennis star Aisam-ul-Haq a big hope for Pakistan’’ Davis Cup Group II final against Thailand at Islamabad
By;Asghar Ali Mubarak

Islamabad; The Pakistan tennis star Aisam-ul-Haq is the big hope for Pakistan Davis Cup Group II final against Thailand at Islamabad Pakistan. The Davis Cup Group II final is scheduled from September 15 to 17 September 2017, Aisam return yesterday after participation in US Open. Aisam and Aqeel Khan were exempted from the trials while two players were selected from the trials.

Saudi Arabia leads world in the percentage of its aid compared to total national income, Saudi Ambassador H.E .Mr. Nawaf Said Ahmad Al-Malkiy
By;Asghar Ali Mubarak

Islamabad-The Saudi Arabian Ambassador H.E .Mr. Nawaf Said Ahmad Al-Malkiy said that Saudi Arabia’s aid has stretched all through the world. Addressing a press conference at royal Embassy Kingdom of SaudiArabia Islamabad he stated that today we rejoice the successful separation of Pakistani conjoined twin Mashal amf Fatima at King Abdullah Specialist hospital for children in Riyadh. The twins arrived in Riyadh with their parents on the directives of the custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz. They were admitted to king Abdulaziz specialist Hospital in Riyadh. He stated that the medical and surgical team were able to separate the conjoined twins “Fatima and Mashal” in a process that lasted 5 hours. He said that Saudi Arabia leads the world in the percentage of its aid compared to total national income. The further stated that the including assistance to distressed countries ,drought-relief assistance, disaster relief assistance and alleviating the suffering of people affected by earthquake, floods and providing non refundable assistance, soft loans for economic development programmes, humanitarian projects and medical assistance.
The doctor told the parents to say goodbye. With wet eyes, they held out their palms in prayer and bent over the hospital bed to kiss their daughters’ tiny foreheads. Mean while the jubilant parents “Fatima and Mashal” stated that the girls had spent the year since their birth facing each other like mirror images they could not escape. Identical twins joined at the belly, each had two arms and two legs, individual hearts and digestive tracts, but they shared a liver. Blood pumping through one also flowed through the other. They could stand with their mother’s help, sometimes posing cheek-to-cheek, other times draping their arms around each other’s neck as if slow dancing. Now, shortly after their first birthday, they had traveled from their poor town in Pakistan to oil-rich Saudi Arabia for a rare and risky separation surgery that would radically change their lives.
“I still have doubts, and I am scared,” said their father, Nisar Ghani, 45, as the doctors wheeled the girls, Fatima and Mishal, toward the operating room. “In the end, it is all up to God.”
The operation, on March 26, was part of a long-running Saudi program to separate conjoined twins who come from poor families around the world. Dr. Abdullah al-Rabeeah, the surgeon who leads the program, said that since 1990 it had performed 40 procedures for families from 20 countries — on three continents — who could not otherwise afford the costly operations. That includes 34 separations like Fatima and Mishal’s; two “sacrifice” operations, as Dr. Rabeeah described them, in which an ailing twin was removed so the other could live; and four that excised extra body parts from individual children.

The program has not widely reported its work in scientific journals; Dr. Rabeeah said 70 of its 74 patients were still alive.
Dr. James O’Neill, a professor of pediatric surgery at Vanderbilt University Medical Center who has also separated large numbers of conjoined twins, said he did not know much about the Saudi program. But after looking into it, Dr. O’Neill said the program appeared to be one of the largest of its type in the world. “On a surface level, it sounds quite valid,” he said.
Success, he noted, should be measured not only by survival rates, but also by the causes of death for patients who did not make it, and the quality of life for those who did.
Dr. Rabeeah said that of the four patients who did not survive, two died from heart disease, one from cholera and one from meningitis. Some of the other former patients keep in touch and occasionally send photographs. Two girls from Sudan whom he separated in 1992, for example, recently visited after graduating from college.
Nisar Ghani and his wife, Leena, with their daughters Fatima and Mishal in their guesthouse in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia
The program is housed at the King Abdullah Specialist Children’s Hospital in Riyadh, which is run by the Saudi National Guard. It is driven by a mix of royal largess, Islamic charity and shrewd public diplomacy.
King Salman approves individual cases and the government foots the bills, giving patients and their families’ first-class plane tickets and free accommodations. The operations are heavily promoted by the local news media, and a reporter and a photographer for The New York Times joined Saudi journalists inside the operating theater for the Ghani girls’ surgery.
“It is a unique, rare anomaly that draws the attention of society and of anyone who wants to help, and I have become enormously attached to it,” said Dr. Rabeeah, a grandfatherly Canadian-trained surgeon who has become something of a national hero.
A former health minister who treats members of the Saudi royal family, Dr. Rabeeah has become so associated with conjoined twins that his identical-twin daughters — the youngest of his eight children — once asked their mother, “When did our dad separate us?”
For the Ghani family, from the Swat Valley in Pakistan, the twins’ birth had been a mix of joy and trauma. Mr. Ghani said that he had left school in eighth grade to help his father farm, then came to Saudi Arabia to work, while his wife, Leena, stayed in Pakistan with their first three daughters, now 9, 7 and 4.
The couple was overjoyed when Ms. Ghani became pregnant with twins because they thought it gave them a better chance of having a son, Mr. Ghani said. When the girls were born conjoined, the doctors spirited them away and did not tell their mother, fearing it would shock her. She said she finally coaxed the news out of her 7-year-old daughter three days later.
Mr. Ghani returned from Saudi Arabia to search for a solution to a condition some of his neighbors saw as divine punishment.
“Me and my family were worried that the people around us would not know how to react,” he said.
The family eventually found a hospital in Islamabad, Pakistan, that could care for but not separate the girls, who were becoming harder to manage as they grew. As with any twins, they ate more and soiled twice as many diapers as the couple’s previous babies, but Fatima and Mishal could not be separated when they tried to steal each other’s food.
“Sometimes they fight and sometimes they embrace,” Ms. Ghani said.
Eventually, a Pakistani doctor wrote to Dr. Rabeeah. The family flew to Riyadh early last month.
The trip was a major status upgrade for Mr. Ghani, who for 12 years had earned $530 a month as a driver for a Saudi family. Now he was effectively a guest of the king.Physiotherapists working with Fatima, left, and Mishal during a post-operation rehabilitation session in Riyadh.
On the day of the operation, the couple watched via a big screen in an auditorium on another floor, he tapping out messages to relatives on his phone, she quietly weeping and reading the Quran.
In the operating room, built specifically for conjoined twins, with two sets of medical equipment, a team of 20 doctors, nurses and technicians cleaned the girls and applied anesthesia, then marked their bodies and began to cut. The team soon fell into a rhythm, talking softly over the whir of the machines and the overlapping beeps of the two heart monitors.
The hardest part was splitting the liver, which turned out to be essentially two livers fused into one, making the separation easier, Dr. Rabeeah said. Five doctors clustered over the girls, some holding back the skin while one cut and cauterized, and another stitched up arteries to prevent blood loss.
Upstairs in the auditorium, nurses on break dropped by to watch the operation, as did members of the National Guard in camouflage uniforms and red caps.In the front row sat Nabil Abdulhaq, a Yemeni school inspector whose son Ahmed had been born two years earlier with two bodies but a single head, heart and set of lungs. Mr. Abdulhaq showed a picture on his phone of the boy lying on a bed with an extra half-torso extending from his chest, with two extra arms and legs.
Now Ahmed, whom Dr. Rabeeah operated on in February, was running around the auditorium, gleefully swiping toys from other children.
Back in the operating room, having divided the liver, the doctors cut through the girls’ abdominal muscles and started on the last strip of skin that connected them.Smoke rose from the table and the smell of seared flesh filled the air. Then Dr. Rabeeah counted down from five, finally proclaiming, “Zero! Praise God!” as the girls was separated.
The nurses burst into applause. Then, for the first time in their lives, the girls were placed on separate beds. The team sewed them up, and plastic surgeons gave each one a belly button. Once stabilized, the girls were wheeled into a hallway to meet their parents, a crowd of well-wishers, the Pakistani ambassador and a local television crew that was broadcasting live.“You can kiss them,” Dr. Rabeeah said.
Mr. Ghani did, then stepped back, bowed down and pressed his forehead to the tile in thanks.
